Tidbits & Trivia addendum

As you may have noted from the writing of the previous post having no capital letters, that was Raph writing.  Now it is I, Kenny, to capitalize some letters, clean up some messy spots, and add some extra info on this excellent piece of journalism that Mr. Fluffybutt provided.

Errors:

Hutz was omitted from the previous piece by mistake.  There was some confusion about how to handle the 2012 season, since Hutz co-owned a team with Burke.  We have decided that Hutz should be given full ownership of the team for the purposes of this article, after concluding that Burke didn’t do more than 10% of the work on that team.  (One owner noted that Burke didn’t do more than 10% of the work when he had a team to himself from 2013-15.)

So with 5 seasons under his belt, Hutz has only only left the draft with one player three times: Madison Bumgarner, drafted in 2012, kept in 2013, and drafted again in 2015.

Little did not draft a team in 2013; he took over midseason.  The original article erroneously gave him 4 times leaving the draft with Donaldson; the actual number is 3.

Other facts:

GUMO is the only person to leave six separate drafts with the same player, that player being Brian McCann.  Not noted in the original piece is that an owner has also left five separate drafts with the same player.  The player is Evan Longoria.  That owner is, again, GUMO.

GUMO has also had love affairs with Jimmy Rollins and Desmond Jennings (four drafts each).  Jennings was drafted for $1 and kept 3 subsequent seasons; Rollins was never kept, and drafted 4 separate times.  With McCann, Longoria, Rollins and Jennings all apparently available in the 2017 draft, someone will need to step their game up to pry any of these players from GUMO.

Of the players mentioned previously who were kept by the same owner 4 times, only Jimmy Rollins (GUMO), Huston Street (Kenny), Jhonny Peralta (Mama) and Howie Kendrick (Page) were never kept by that owner.

Raph noted the 3 players who have been drafted in all 9 years of the league, but never kept.  There are other players who have been a part of the draft for 9 years, but have been kept some of those times:

  • Adrian Beltre
  • Ryan Braun
  • Jay Bruce
  • Asdrubal Cabrera (kept only once)
  • Miguel Cabrera
  • Robinson Cano
  • Jacoby Ellsbury
  • Prince Fielder
  • Adrian Gonzalez
  • Cole Hamels
  • Matt Holliday (kept only once)
  • Adam Jones
  • Matt Kemp
  • Clayton Kershaw
  • Ian Kinsler
  • Adam Laroche (kept only once)
  • Evan Longoria
  • Victor Martinez
  • Brian McCann
  • David Ortiz
  • Jonathan Papelbon (kept only once)
  • Dustin Pedroia
  • Hunter Pence
  • Albert Pujols
  • Hanley Ramirez
  • Jose Reyes (kept only once)
  • James Shields
  • Troy Tulowitzki
  • Justin Upton
  • Justin Verlander
  • Joey Votto
  • Adam Wainwright
  • David Wright
  • Ryan Zimmerman

The following players were drafted in 8 separate drafts and never kept (meaning they were not drafted in one of the years):

  • Elvis Andrus (not drafted in 2008)
  • Carlos Beltran (2016)
  • Shin-Soo Choo (2008)
  • Coco Crisp (2016)
  • Howie Kendrick (2010)
  • Justin Morneau (2016)
  • Aramis Ramirez (2016)
  • Alex Rios (2016)
  • Jimmy Rollins (2016)

One has to imagine Page reading that Howie Kendrick went undrafted in 2010, and penning a tearful apology letter for letting him down.
